Individual Stableford Competition, Thursday 23rd June – Espiche Golfe
On Thursday 23rd June, we made our second visit of the year to Espiche Golfe for an individual stableford competition. Set within unspoilt undulating countryside, the greens and fairways of Espiche Golf course have been carefully placed to balance the dual demands of the golfer and the environment, with a beautiful backdrop and some challenging obstacles. The golf course requires careful thought along the 5,464 metres (6,000 yds) from the yellow tees and requires a deft touch on the short game. Most greens are guarded by well placed bunkers whilst the greens themselves are large and undulating, demanding a soft hand with the putter. Espiche Golf course in Lagos is a shot-maker’s course, where each hole poses a new challenge thanks to the variety of the layout. Golfers are pushed to take risks with their game at Espiche Golf course, with rich rewards for those who make the most of their golfing skills and who best judge the course. Unfortunately, very dark clouds greeted our players and a heavy downpour arrived just as the first group teed off. With showers forecast for most of the morning, it looked like all of the players would not escape the wet weather. Congratulations go out to our winner, Pam Sharpe who returned a fine score of 35pts. Apparently, Pam has her husband Phil to thank for her first success in a 6 Golfe event as Phil made sure he informed everyone that he taught Pam ‘all she knows about golf’ ! In second place was Chris Ray (34pts) and in third place on countback was Rob Veal (33pts). Our best guest was Manu Collas who also posted 35pts. Nearest the pin on the par three 5th hole was Andrew Francis, again showing his skill on the short holes. Nearest the pin in two on the 11th hole was Mark Colebatch. There were no two’s recorded this week.
We would like to thank Pauline Binnie and her team at Espiche for the great welcome the superb service that we received and we look forward to returning to Espiche again later in the summer.
Next week, on Thursday 30th June, we are playing an individual stableford competition at the Pestana Vale da Pinta course with tee times from 11.15. For more details, please see the ‘Events’ section.
